A Dental Implant is a titanium screw that is placed directly into your jawbone to replace the root of a tooth. A crown, bridge or denture is then attached to the screw to fill the gap and create a natural looking smile. There are three parts to an Implant, the screw, the abutment and the crown. A pre-requisite for fitting Implants is an adequate amount of bone in which to insert the screw, where this is not present, a bone craft may be required (not unusual). Quality Implants are costly but very popular and highly effective as a long-term solution.
